"ALL MEN" Poster

Two men embrace in a photo by Kristen Bjorn taken in the 1980's.

"ALL MEN"

In the year 1987, I created "ALL MEN," a full length, two-man show (or "structuralist performance piece" in the jargon of the era) taken from 20 years of my writing, with poems going back to my teens, excerpts from my plays, and a performance of a haunting short story, "The Cold," later featured in my collection Works and Other "Smokey George" Stories.

ALL MEN was performed in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York's  Greenwich Village.
The title of the show comes from a 1971 poem, "In loving you," about my infatuation with virtually every guy I'd see; about being young, gay, and alive to New York in the liberation-soaked, pre-AIDS 1970s. Originally published in Gay Sunshine, an underground San Francisco paper from that period, "In loving you" was filled with the wonder of coming out, of young men falling in love on the streets, of those 'rainbow-eyed, flower-heads' of liberation who are still with us, no matter where they are now.

To promote the show, this poster was created, with an image by the then new,  hot  photographer from Brazil, Kristen Bjorn. Bjorn's photo had the lush, romantic male imagery that perfectly matched the poem and the show.
